Chemical Properties
Dark bluish green to greenish black powder. Soluble in water, aqueous solution is dark bluish green, adding concentrated sodium hydroxide solution is purple. Soluble in ethylene glycol ether, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in other organic solvents. The dye is purple in 10% sodium hydroxide solution; bluish green in concentrated sulfuric acid, blue when diluted, with precipitation; brown in concentrated nitric acid.
Uses

Preparation
