Uses
This gene encodes a member of the cyclin-dependent protein kinase family. The protein promotes entry into S phase, in part by activating members of the E2F family of transcription factors. The protein also associates with cyclin C and phosphorylates the retinoblastoma 1 protein to promote exit from G0. (provided by RefSeq)
Biological Activity
CDK activating kinase assembly factor MNAT1 or MAT1 is functionally associated with the general transcription/DNA repair factor TFIIH. It is an assembly factor th at targets subunits of both cyclin-dependent kinase-activating kinase (CAK) and TFIIH kinase. MAT1 regulates cell cycle and transcription. This protein associates with cyclin H and cyclin-dependent kinase 7 (CDK7) and forms the CDK-activating kinase (CAK) complex. The complex activates several cyclin-associated kinases, regulates cell cycle progression and activates RNA polymerase II-mediated transcription.
