N-(2,6-dichloro-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)acetamide (34.5 g, 131 mmol) was used as a raw material and dissolved in ethanol (600 mL). Subsequently, 2N aqueous potassium hydroxide solution (400 mL) was added to this solution to obtain the reaction mixture. The reaction mixture was heated to 90°C and stirred, and the reaction was kept at reflux for 2 days. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was cooled to room temperature, then cooled to 0 °C in an ice water bath and stirring was continued for 1 hour. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration, washed with cold ethanol/water (1:1, v/v) mixed solvent and dried to give 2,6-dichloro-3,5-dimethoxyaniline (22.1 g, 76% yield). The product was characterized by 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d5): δ 6.21 (s, 1H), 5.40 (s, 2H), 3.83 (s, 6H).
