dark green to black crystals or crystalline powder
Catalyst for:
- Olefin hydrogenation
- Electron transfer chain catalysis mechanism
- Pre-catalyst for the hydrosilation of ketones and aldehydes, for the dehydrocoupling of triphenylsilane with primary alcohols
core: chromium
reagent type: catalyst
Poison by intravenous route. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Cr.
Diphenylchromium was prepared as follows: in the presence of benzene, chromium trichloride was reduced with aluminum metal using aluminum trichloride as a catalyst to produce diphenylchromium tetrachloroaluminate [Cr(6-C6H6)2]-[AlCl4], which was then reduced to neutral diphenylchromium with aqueous Lienodisulfite.
Dibenzenechromium is sublimed at 160 °C in vacuo.
Dibenzenechromium is air sensitive.
