ISOEGOMAKETONE

Isoegomaketone is a sesquiterpenoid that can be isolated from Perilla frutescens essential oil. Isoegomaketone exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-mycobacterial, anti-arthritic and anti-obesity effects[1][2][3].

This compound tested in in vivo models of B16 melanoma gave a significant cellgrowth inhibition. The tumor cells show an ROS-mediated mitochondria-dependentapoptotic-type death in sub-G1 cell cycle. Iso-egomaketone seemed to generateROS in cells as well as upregulation of Bax and Bcl-2expression (Russo et al. 2015;Shen et al. 2012).
