2,3-Dichloro-6-methoxyquinoxaline is used for preparation of antibacterial and antifungal activity of (tetrazolo[1,5-a]quinoxalinyl)dihydrophthalazine-diones as reactant or reagent.
General procedure for the synthesis of 2,3-dichloro-6-methoxyquinoxaline from 6-methoxyquinoxaline-2,3-diol: 6-methoxy-1,4-dihydro-quinoxaline-2,3-dione (15.5 g, 1 mmol) was dissolved in 75 mL of phosphorochloride, and the reaction mixture was heated and refluxed for 24 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, a 1:1 mixture of water and methanol was slowly added at 0 to 5 °C to quench the reaction. Subsequently, the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and dried under reduced pressure to give 17.2 g of 2,3-dichloro-6-methoxyquinoxaline in 93.1% yield.
