1-Chlorohexadecane(Cetyl chloride; Hexadecyl chloride) CAS No.: 4860-03-1, Molecular formula: C16H33Cl, M.W.: 260.89, is a colourless to slight yellow clear liquid at room temperature (25 °C). Below its melting point (8–14 °C), it solidifies into a colourless to slight yellow solid with a crystalline or waxy appearance.It is an important long-chain haloalkane.Due to the chlorine atom attached to a primary carbon and haveing a sixteen carbon long chain structure, it exhibits high surface activity and reactivity, making it widely used as a surfactant raw material and hexadecylating reagent.
