This product is colorless solid, m.p.103 ~ 105℃, soluble in ethanol and other solvents.

Production method: 

The solution of resorcinol and sodium hydroxide was put into autoclase, and nickel catalyst was added, and the reaction was carried out by hydrogen at 50℃ and 70-100 atmosphere for 10-12h. Then the temperature is lowered, the pressure is relieved, the catalyst is filtered, the filtrate is acidified with concentrated hydrochloric acid, cooled to 0℃, and the crystallization is filtered out, that is, 1, 3-cyclohexanedione crude product. The crude product is recrystallized with hot benzene to obtain the finished product.
