β-bromo-phenylethane is an important intermediate in the synthesis of highly effective bromo-based flame retardants polybromo-styrene, and is also commonly used in the preparation of organic synthesis intermediates. As an anti-asthma drug, Prelunast was first developed by Ono Company in Japan, and was listed in Japan in 1995, and in 1999 Chemicalbook, it was found to treat allergic rhinitis. Prelenast is a leukotriene C4/D4 receptor antagonist (lTRAs) with extremely low toxicity.
