**Cefoxitin: A Comprehensive Overview**  

**Definition:**  

Cefoxitin is a second-generation cephamycin antibiotic, belonging to the beta-lactam class. It is derived from *Streptomyces* species and is known for its broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, particularly against anaerobic bacteria.  

**Function:**  

Cefoxitin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of susceptible bacteria.
