Eplenone is a new selective aldosterone receptor antagonist approved by the State Food and Drug Administration for clinical use in 2002. The pure product is white or white-like crystal. It has a stronger antagonistic effect on aldosterone than spironolactone, and has a very low affinity for androgen and progesterone receptors with small adverse reactions. Chemicalbook has fewer adverse reactions, is well tolerated and is a good alternative to spironolactone. For severe hypertension which could not be controlled by multiple antihypertensive drugs, eplenone could reduce blood pressure significantly, especially systolic blood pressure. Treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) and beta-blockers improves quality of life and reduces mortality in patients with severe heart failure and myocardial infarction.
