Kava-or kava kava-is a root found on South Pacific islands. Islanders have used kava as medicine and in ceremonies for centuries.Kava has a calming effect, producing brain wave changes similar to changes that occur with calming medicines. Kava also can prevent convulsions and relax muscles. Although kava is not addictive, its effect may decrease with use.Traditionally prepared as a tea, kava root is also available as a dietary supplement in powder and tincture (extract in alcohol ) forms.

Its active ingredients are called kavalactones. To date, 18 kavalactones have been identified, among these, six major kavalactones constitute approximately 95% of the lipid extract derived from the dried roots and rhizomes; these are kavain, dihydrokavain, methysticin, dihydromethysticin, yangonin, and desmethoxyyangonin.

Function

1. It has the function of enhanced immune. improve cardiovascular system and anti-tumor;

2. It could resist tiredness, reduce blood fat, resist radiation and ulceration, protect liver, enhance immunity etc;

3. It has the function of relieving a cough, eliminating sputum, relieving dyspepsia and promote blood circulation by removing blood stasis;

4. It could be used for cough with copious whitish viscid sputum, indigestion, abdominal pain and ecchymosis, injury due to falling;
