Phosphorus tribromide CAS 7789-60-8, PBr3, Mw 270.69, is a colourless to pale-yellow fuming liquid with a pungent, irritating odour. The highly reactive P–Br bonds make PBr₃ a powerful and selective reagent for converting alcohols into alkyl bromides and for introducing phosphorus or bromine into organic frameworks.
