Product Description:
SS-31 (also known as Elamipretide or MTP-131) is a mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant peptide with the molecular formula C32H49N9O5 and an average molecular weight of approximately 639.79. It consists of four amino acids: D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2, where Dmt stands for 2,6-dimethyl-L-tyrosine. SS-31 is a cardiolipin peroxidase inhibitor that can improve left ventricular and mitochondrial function and alleviate mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative damage in human trabecular meshwork cells.
The main functions of SS-31 include:
Antioxidant effect: It can remove reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby reducing oxidative stress damage to cells.
Neuroprotection: SS-31 can reduce oxidative stress on neurons in neurodegenerative diseases, decrease the accumulation of neuroinflammatory mediators and toxic proteins, and has anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and neuron-survival-promoting effects.
Cardioprotection: In heart ischemia/reperfusion injury models, SS-31 effectively reduces myocardial cell death, improves overall cardiac function, and significantly reduces the area of myocardial infarction.
Renal protection: SS-31 shows improvement in kidney disease by alleviating mitochondrial dysfunction.
Anti-aging: SS-31 may reduce oxidative stress and cellular damage, inhibit aging-related biological processes, and could become an important means of anti-aging intervention in the future.
