tert-Butyl bromoacetate, CAS 5292-43-3, C₆H₁₁BrO₂, Mw 195.06, is a colourless to pale-yellow clear liquid with a pungent odour. This hindered halogenated tert-butyl ester combines a tert-butoxycarbonyl group and a bromine atom, delivering useful steric bulk and high reactivity. It is widely employed as a carboxy-protecting reagent and as a carboxymethylating agent in organic synthesis.
