The ABCD2 antibody targets the ATP-binding cassette subfamily D member 2 (ABCD2), a peroxisomal transmembrane protein involved in transporting very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) into peroxisomes for β-oxidation. ABCD2 shares structural and functional homology with ABCD1. whose mutations cause X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD), a severe neurodegenerative disorder. While ABCD1 deficiency leads to VLCFA accumulation, ABCD2 is thought to partially compensate for ABCD1 dysfunction, making it a focus in studying peroxisomal disorders and metabolic regulation.

ABCD2 is highly expressed in tissues with active lipid metabolism, such as the liver, brain, and adrenal glands. Research using ABCD2 antibodies has helped elucidate its role in cellular stress responses, neuroprotection, and lipid homeostasis. These antibodies are widely utilized in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to assess ABCD2 expression levels, subcellular localization, and interactions in disease models, including ABCD2-knockout mice or X-ALD cell lines.

Recent studies also explore ABCD2's potential as a therapeutic target, as its upregulation might mitigate metabolic imbalances in peroxisomal diseases. The antibody's specificity and validation in detecting endogenous ABCD2 remain critical for advancing mechanistic insights into peroxisome-related pathologies and metabolic syndrome.
