The SEC31A antibody targets SEC31A, a key component of the COPII (coat protein complex II) vesicle coat involved in endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-to-Golgi transport. SEC31A, along with SEC13. forms the outer layer of the COPII complex, facilitating cargo selection, vesicle budding, and membrane curvature. It contains WD40 repeats critical for structural integrity and interactions with other COPII subunits, such as SEC23/SEC24. SEC31A plays roles in maintaining ER export sites, regulating secretory pathways, and ensuring proper protein trafficking. Dysregulation of SEC31A is linked to diseases, including certain cancers (e.g., hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal cancer) and COPII-related genetic disorders like cranio-lenticulo-sutural dysplasia.

SEC31A antibodies are widely used in research to study COPII assembly, intracellular transport mechanisms, and disease pathogenesis. They are employed in techniques like immunofluorescence, Western blotting, and immunoprecipitation to visualize SEC31A localization, assess expression levels, or explore protein interactions. Commercially available antibodies are often validated for specificity across human, mouse, and rat models. Recent studies also utilize SEC31A antibodies to investigate autophagy-lysosomal pathways and cellular stress responses, highlighting its broader functional relevance. As a biomarker, SEC31A expression patterns may offer diagnostic or prognostic insights in oncology and genetic research.
