Matrix metalloproteinase 20 (MMP20), also known as enamelysin, is a member of the zinc-dependent endopeptidase family, primarily expressed during the early stages of tooth development. It plays a critical role in the proteolytic processing of enamel matrix proteins, such as amelogenin, ameloblastin, and enamelin, enabling proper enamel biomineralization. Dysregulation or mutations in MMP20 are linked to amelogenesis imperfecta, a genetic disorder characterized by defective enamel formation.

MMP20 antibodies are immunological tools designed to detect and quantify MMP20 expression in research and diagnostic contexts. These antibodies, often raised in rabbits or mice, target specific epitopes of MMP20. enabling applications like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. They are essential for studying MMP20's spatiotemporal expression patterns during odontogenesis, its interaction with substrates, and its role in pathological conditions beyond dental defects, including certain cancers and connective tissue disorders.
