DNPEP (aspartyl aminopeptidase), also known as vasopressinase or puromycin-sensitive aminopeptidase, is a zinc-dependent metalloprotease encoded by the DNPEP gene. It belongs to the M18 peptidase family and plays a role in cleaving N-terminal acidic residues (aspartate/glutamate) from peptides, influencing diverse biological processes. Research highlights its involvement in regulating blood pressure through angiotensin metabolism, modulating β-amyloid peptide degradation (relevant to Alzheimer’s disease), and participating in cellular processes like protein turnover and apoptosis. Dysregulation of DNPEP has been implicated in hypertension, cancer progression, and neurodegenerative disorders.

DNPEP antibodies are essential tools for studying the enzyme's expression, localization, and function. They are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to detect DNPEP in tissues or cell lines. Commercial antibodies often target specific epitopes within its conserved catalytic domain or variable regions, with validation typically including knockout controls.
