Keratin 73 (KRT73), a member of the keratin intermediate filament protein family, plays a structural and regulatory role in epithelial cells, particularly in hair follicles and other stratified tissues. As a type II keratin, it pairs with specific type I keratins to form heterodimers that maintain cellular integrity, mechanical stability, and stress resistance. KRT73 is encoded by the *KRT73* gene, located on chromosome 12q13.13. a genomic region rich in keratin genes.

Mutations in *KRT73* have been linked to hereditary hair disorders, such as autosomal dominant woolly hair/hypotrichosis, characterized by abnormal hair texture and density. These mutations disrupt keratin filament assembly, compromising hair shaft structure and follicular function. KRT73 antibodies are essential tools in studying its expression patterns, localization, and interaction partners in both normal and diseased tissues.

In research, KRT73 antibodies are widely used in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and Western blotting to investigate hair follicle biology, epithelial differentiation, and keratin-related pathologies. They also aid in diagnosing keratin-associated genetic disorders and exploring potential therapeutic targets. Commercial KRT73 antibodies are typically validated for specificity against recombinant or endogenous proteins, though variations in isoform expression across tissues require careful experimental design. Ongoing studies aim to clarify KRT73's role beyond structural support, including its involvement in cell signaling and wound healing.
