SCGB3A2 (Secretoglobin Family 3A Member 2), also known as HIN-1 or UGRP2. is a small secreted protein belonging to the secretoglobin superfamily. It is primarily expressed in epithelial cells of mucosal surfaces, including the respiratory tract, mammary glands, and reproductive tissues. Structurally, SCGB3A2 forms dimeric complexes stabilized by disulfide bonds, a hallmark of secretoglobins involved in immunomodulation and tissue repair. Its expression is regulated by hormones and cytokines, suggesting roles in inflammation and host defense.

SCGB3A2 antibodies are critical tools for detecting this protein in research and diagnostics. Studies link SCGB3A2 to lung development, where it promotes alveolar epithelial cell differentiation, and to pathological conditions such as pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, and cancer. In oncology, SCGB3A2 is considered a tumor suppressor; its downregulation or promoter hypermethylation is observed in lung, breast, and pancreatic cancers. Conversely, elevated levels are found in certain inflammatory lung diseases.

Antibodies against SCGB3A2 (polyclonal or monoclonal) are widely used in immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and ELISA to study its tissue distribution, expression patterns, and clinical correlations. Recent research also explores its potential as a biomarker for early cancer detection or monitoring therapeutic responses.
