Claudin-11. a member of the claudin family of tight junction proteins, plays a critical role in forming paracellular barriers that regulate cellular permeability and maintain tissue homeostasis. It is predominantly expressed in myelinating cells of the central nervous system (CNS), such as oligodendrocytes, and in Sertoli cells of the testis, where it contributes to the blood-testis barrier. Claudin-11 is essential for the formation of tight junctions in myelin sheaths, ensuring proper nerve conduction, and in the testes, it safeguards developing sperm cells from immune-mediated damage.
