Does MK-677 promote height growth?
MK-677 (Ibutamoren mesylate) is an orally active, non-peptide growth hormone secretagogue and ghrelin receptor agonist that mimics the action of growth hormone-releasing peptides, thereby significantly elevating endogenous levels of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). It cannot induce height growth in adults whose epiphyseal plates have already fused, as height increase depends on the proliferation of epiphyseal cartilage, and the skeleton ceases to elongate longitudinally once epiphyseal fusion occurs in adulthood. For children or adolescents whose epiphyseal plates have not yet fused, its effect of elevating GH and IGF-1 levels could theoretically aid in height growth; however, there is currently a lack of high-quality clinical studies confirming its safety and efficacy. Furthermore, this substance has not been approved by major global regulatory bodies for use as a growth aid, and it carries various health risks, including edema, elevated blood glucose levels, and endocrine disruption.
