Does succinic anhydride react with alcohols? What is the hazard?

Succinic anhydride is an important organic acylation reagent and dehydrating agent. Kinetic resolution by acylation of an alcohol with succinic anhydride yields the unreacted alcohol and the hemisuccinate of the fast-reacting enantiomer. It has acute toxicity(oral,aquatic), it causes serious eye damage/eye irritation and skin sensitization.
