How does bronopol work as bactericide?

Bronopol can fight many kinds of bacteria, especially Gram-negative ones. It stops bad microbes from growing by messing up their metabolism. Studies show bronopol can also fight some fungi. For example, scientists tested bronopol and MT on Saprolegnia species. Bronopol worked at 100-200 mg/l. MT worked at lower amounts. This shows bronopol is good for controlling bacteria and some fungi in labs and factories.
