How is 2-Ethyl-1-butanol synthesized? Is it toxic?

2-Ethyl-1-butanol is a fragrance ingredient used in cosmetics, fine fragrances, shampoos, toilet soaps and other toiletries as well as in non-cosmetic products such as household cleaners and detergents. 2-Ethyl-1-butanol is manufactured industrially by the aldol condensation of acetaldehyde and butyraldehyde, followed by hydrogenation. It has acute toxicity and is harmful if swallowed or in contact with skin.
