Is bromobenzene a halogen?

Apr 15,2026

Bromobenzene is not a halogen itself; halogens refer to the group of elemental nonmetals including fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine, while bromobenzene is an aromatic organic compound in which one hydrogen atom on the benzene ring is substituted by a bromine atom. It is a colorless to light yellow flammable liquid at room temperature, nearly insoluble in water but soluble in common organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and benzene, and is widely used as an important intermediate in organic synthesis, especially in the preparation of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, and in coupling reactions like Grignard reactions and Suzuki reactions.
