Is CJC-1295 a prohibited substance?

Feb 4,2026

Yes. CJC-1295 is listed as a prohibited substance under Section S2 of the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List. CJC-1295 is a synthetic 29-amino acid analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), featuring amino acid substitutions at positions 2, 8, 15, and 27. Research confirms CJC-1295 elevates serum growth hormone levels. Its mechanism of action parallels that of GHRH and synthetic analogues GRF1–29 and tesamorelin (TH9507), but it differs from ghrelin-like substances among growth hormone secretion promoters. CJC-1295 was developed by Connu Biotechnologies Inc. (Montreal, Canada). Its original formulation utilised a unique bio-conjugate technology termed the ‘drug affinity construct’ (DAC). The maleimide propionamide derivative attached to the C-terminal lysine enables covalent binding to albumin in vivo, thereby significantly prolonging its half-life. However, the majority of products marketed as CJC-1295 currently available are unauthorised preparations lacking DAC characteristics. CJC-1295 was withdrawn from clinical trials in 2006 and is no longer in use. Nevertheless, due to its potential performance-enhancing effects, it is improperly utilised within competitive or elite sporting contexts.
