Mitiglinide calcium dihydrate:Efficacy, Mechnaism and Safety

Mitiglinide calcium dihydrate belongs to the meglitinide class of blood glucose-lowering drugs. It is a Potassiun Channel blocker. It is thought to stimulate insulin secretion by closing the ATP-sensitive K(+) K(ATP) channels in pancreatic beta-cells.

Efficacy

Mitiglinide Calcium dihydrate is an insulinotropic agent, it is highly specific to the Kir6.2/SUR1 complex (the pancreatic beta-cell KATP channel). Mitiglinide Calcium dihydrate can be used for the research of type 2 diabetes.

Mechnaism

Mitiglinide Calcium dihydrate functions as a potassium channel blocker. It acts by binding to the ATP-sensitive potassium channels on the pancreatic beta cells, leading to the closure of these channels. This closure results in the depolarization of the cell membrane, leading to the opening of voltage-gated calcium channels. The influx of calcium ions then triggers the release of insulin from the beta cells. Mitiglinide Calcium′s mechanism of action involves targeting the pancreatic beta cells and modulating their insulin release in response to glucose levels. By interacting with the potassium channels and calcium channels, Mitiglinide Calcium plays a role in regulating insulin secretion at the cellular level.1

Safety

Mitiglinide’s efficacy and safety profile have been supported by numerous clinical studies. It is particularly beneficial for patients who have erratic mealtime schedules or who experience significant postprandial hyperglycemia. Moreover, it can be used in combination with other antidiabetic medications such as metformin or thiazolidinediones for a synergistic effect in glucose control.
