Lithium aluminium hydride can be used to reduce aldehydes, ketones, esters, carboxylic acids, nitriles, polyfunctional aromatic nitro compounds, sulphonates, halophosphines (phosphine trifluoride and phosphoryl fluoride), aroxyalkyl ketone monomers and dimers, and halogenated alkanes, amongst others.
