PVP, or Polyvinylpyrrolidone, is a water-soluble polymeric compound frequently utilized as a pharmaceutical excipient, cosmetic film-former, dispersant, and binder, among other applications; it is characterized by excellent biocompatibility, film-forming properties, and stability. Its "K-value" is a characteristic parameter derived from the viscosity of dilute aqueous solutions using the Fikentscher method, serving primarily to characterize the compound's molecular weight and viscosity. A higher K-value corresponds to a higher molecular weight of the PVP and, consequently, a higher viscosity in aqueous solution.
