What is abamectin's acute toxicity class? What is the recommended resistance management for it?
Abamectin is used for both crop protection and pharmaceutical purposes. Abamectin with trade names of Avomec, Agri-Mek, Avid, Dynamec, Vertimec and Zephyr. Technical avermectin is quite acutely toxic, with an oral rat LD50 (lethal dose for 50% of the test rats) of 30 mg/kg.Abamectin has been shown to cause pupil dilation, mild skin irritation, vomiting, convulsions and/or tremors and coma in laboratory animals. Abamectin is also very toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates (FCH 2000). When applying Abamectin to plants that are hosts of labeled pests with mutiplegenerations per crop per year, use resistance management practices such as the following: Rotate this product with other products that have different modes of action, DO NOT apply this product to successive insect generations, follow the use rates and intervals between applications that are specified in this label , use a non-chemical alternative (such as beneficial arthropods), plant susceptible plants following non-susceptible plants, and use other cultural practices.
