What is the daily dosage of Levodopa? How well is it tolerated?
Apr 3,2026
Levodopa is a decarboxylase inhibitor and also used to treat Parkinson disease. It is thought to be helpful for RLS symptoms based on its dopaminergic effect. Levodopa is prescribed with carbidopa, which prevents decarboxylation of levodopa before passing through the blood-brain barrier to help with nausea. The usual dose of C/L is 25/100 mg tablets. Avoid greater than 200 mg/d to prevent augmentation. Levodopa is generally well tolerated. Initially it can cause nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms but these symptoms usually settle with time and if necessary, antiemetics can be used. Postural hypotension can also occur and sometimes this can limit the dose that can be used.
