1,3-Propanesultone is moderately soluble in cold water and hydrolyzes slowly in hot water or aqueous base; it is freely soluble in polar organic solvents including ethanol, methanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, tetrahydrofuran, dioxane, dimethylformamide, dichloromethane, and chloroform, but practically insoluble in nonpolar solvents such as petroleum ether, hexane, and other aliphatic hydrocarbons.
