Why are carbazole derivatives the preferred choice for OLED material?

The impressive hole-transporting mobility, high thermal stability and electrochemical durabilty of carbazole derivatives have driven their application in organic electronic fields, including solar cells, fluorescent switches, photorefractive materials, organic lighting emitting diodes (OLEDs), among others. To further exploit the substantial benefits of the organic framework, ongoing research is focused on synthesizing various dicarbazole (DCZ) derivatives by linking two carbazole units through the oxidative formation of N–N or C–C bonds.
